Preview: Watch Divided Attention in Action
Objective
Watch multiple playgrounds at once and press the corresponding number key when you see a ball and rocket collide in any playground.
How It Works
The game tests divided attention by requiring you to track multiple moving objects across different areas of the screen. As you progress through levels, the number of playgrounds increases, the objects move faster, and the time to respond decreases. The game is played with keyboard numbers - 1 number if there is only one playground, numbers 1-2 if there are 2 playgrounds, and numbers 1-2-4-5 if there are 4 playgrounds.
Step-by-step Instructions
- Monitor all playgrounds displayed on screen simultaneously
- Each playground is numbered and contains a ball and a rocket that move around
- When a ball and rocket collide in any playground, press the corresponding number key
- Respond as quickly as possible to score points
- Avoid pressing keys when there is no collision
Skills You Develop
- Divided attention - ability to monitor multiple areas simultaneously
- Peripheral vision awareness
- Reaction time improvement
- Visual processing speed
- Response selection under time pressure
- Sustained attention over extended periods
Coaching Tips
- Try to develop a scanning pattern to check all playgrounds systematically
- Focus on the center of the screen while using peripheral vision to detect collisions
- Keep your fingers positioned over the number keys for faster response
- Take brief mental breaks between levels to maintain focus
- Practice predicting potential collision points by tracking object trajectories
