Variable Memory

Challenge your working memory and mental calculation skills by memorizing variable values and their relationships, then recalling and computing answers based on what you've learned.

Objective

Study a series of variables with their mathematical expressions, memorize their values, and then answer questions about these variables or calculations involving them.

How It Works

This game trains your working memory capacity and mental arithmetic skills. You must encode and retain multiple variable values in your memory, track their relationships through mathematical operations, and then retrieve this information quickly to answer questions. The challenge increases with more variables to remember, shorter study times, and questions that require additional calculations beyond simple recall.

Step-by-step Instructions

  • Watch carefully as each variable is displayed one at a time with its expression or value
  • Variables are shown sequentially, each for a limited time
  • Pay attention to how variables relate to each other through mathematical operations
  • After all variables have been shown, questions will appear asking about variable values or calculations
  • Type your numerical answer in the input field
  • Respond within the time limit to score points

Skills You Develop

  • Working memory - ability to hold and manipulate information in mind
  • Mental arithmetic and calculation
  • Pattern recognition for variable relationships
  • Information encoding and retrieval
  • Quick decision making under time pressure
  • Concentration and focus

Coaching Tips

  • Focus intently on each variable as it appears - you won't see it again during the study phase
  • Try to understand the relationships between variables, not just memorize isolated values
  • Create mental associations or patterns to help remember the values
  • For calculation-based questions, recall the relevant variable values first, then perform the operation
  • Practice mental math to speed up your calculations
  • Stay calm and focused - rushing can lead to errors in both memory and calculation
  • If you forget a value, try to reconstruct it from the relationships you remember
