FAA Intensifies Focus on Laser Strikes and Mixed Traffic Safety at Airports

The FAA is addressing persistent laser strike incidents and scrutinizing mixed air traffic operations at multiple airports following safety concerns.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is implementing preventive measures to strengthen aviation safety during March 2025. A primary concern involves the persistent problem of laser attacks targeting aircraft, which continue to pose serious dangers to pilots and crews despite ongoing public education efforts. The FAA maintains its warnings about these hazardous incidents while collaborating with law enforcement agencies to locate and prosecute offenders. Furthermore, following a series of close-call events and continuing deliberations regarding airport surface operations, the FAA has launched examinations of 'mixed traffic' procedures at multiple major airports, intending to broaden this assessment across the country. This initiative seeks to identify and reduce potential hazards arising from diverse aircraft types, ranging from small private aircraft to large commercial airliners, sharing common operational areas, thereby promoting more efficient and secure air traffic coordination while reducing the likelihood of runway conflicts.
