Introduction
Symbol Match is a Stage 1 module in the NATS Preparation Suite. Pairs of symbols appear one after another until the clock runs out. You respond only when the two symbols are the same.
The task
Press Space, or tap Matched, as soon as the two symbols are identical. When they differ, do nothing. A press on a different pair is a mistake. Letting a matching pair disappear without a press is a miss. There is no button for “different”.
Every pair stays on screen for the same length of time, so waiting does not reveal the answer. After the pair leaves, the next one follows. A level may pause so you can see whether the press was right, or go straight to the next pair.
Some pairs are clearly different. Others share the same symbol and differ by a small mark, so a glance at the outline is not enough.

Priorities
Decide from the whole symbol, including the small mark, before you press. The costly error is a press on a near pair, because those pairs are built to look right at a glance. Keep your hand ready and still leave the different pairs untouched. The clock keeps running either way.
The in-module walkthrough shows one matching pair and one different pair before the session starts. Monitoring Ability, Ability to Concentrate, and Inductive Reasoning are other Stage 1 modules in the suite. A broader overview is available in NATS Test Explained.
